On August 2, 2025, WWE Star CM Punk finally achieved the World Heavyweight Championship title after nearly 12 years.
After winning the World title on November 20, 2011, at Survivor Series, Punk kept ot for 434 days, the 6th longest reign in WWE history.
Following his reign, Punk lost the title to The Rock at the 2013 Royal Rumble; from that day, Punk never got the chance to win the title again until SummerSlam 2025.
CM Punk faced Gunther in a World Heavyweight Championship match at WWE SummerSlam 2025.
The match took place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, during Night 1 of a two-night event held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Both wrestlers took the match up to 30 minutes and 20 seconds, which ultimately led to Punk’s victory over Gunther.
While Punk celebrated his long-awaited victory, something tragic came to the Punk world, disturbing his celebration and his wrestling world.
Just minutes after Punk’s victory and celebration, Seth Rollins appeared with crutches, revealing his previous knee injury.
While Seth held the Money in the Bank briefcase, he wasted no time cashing it in and snatching the World Title from Punk.
Unfortunately, the saddest part was that Punk’s long-awaited moment lasted just about five minutes.

After waiting 12 years to reclaim a world championship, his celebration was over almost as soon as it began.
Therefore, CM Punk remains the WWE Champion for five minutes, just like Drew McIntyre in the past.
On WrestleMania 40, Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins, Drew won the world title, but CM Punk ran in and attacked him, seeking revenge.
While Drew was still down, Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and pinned McIntyre.
Remembering this sad moment, Drew backstage was smiling at Punk Loss, saying it’s all about Karma, in his time with WWE Officials, he said;
Karma’s a hell of a thing. I’ve been watching what’s been going on on Raw with Seth. Seth and I are professional rivals, not like Punk and I. Seth has done exactly to Punk what Punk did to me, and tonight was the cherry on top. Congratulations, Seth. You deserve it.
While CM Punk’s world now seems to be quite miserable, Drew Macyntier seems to be enjoying the moment, and Seth Rollins stands tall as the new champion.
